Present Day

At this point, it's been about 100 years since mortals have had communication with the gods. A lot of things have changed since.

Before communication was interrupted, it was rare to find someone who was not devoted to a god in any way. Nowadays, it seems to be a pretty even split; while some choose to keep their strong faith, others choose to not worship the gods at all. Cities who were known to have an overarching faith to certain gods have kept this in tact, but there have never been laws in any city stating residents must worship any god. Temples still exist and have people who work in them, but they are not nearly as busy as they once were. Religions centered around certain gods grew smaller and smaller as time went on.

Despite the gods being completely silent, nothing seems to have changed regarding magic; people can still use the magic gifted by the gods even without speaking to them, and magic only became more integrated in society as time went on. Mortals as a whole only got better with it and learned how to diversify their spells more. In fact, it's extremely rare to see someone not use magic at all, as it's such an integral part of society; spells are used even down to the smallest of tasks. No new domains of magic have been discovered since the silence of the gods started, but many people were able to develop a mastery of the ones they were already given. People still devote time and energy into learning the ability to wield new domains of magic as well as learning new spells, perhaps now more today than ever before.

Aside from the radio silence of the gods, the strangest thing that's happened in present day history is the defiance of mortals against one of the last things the gods told them; not to step foot on Lune de Miel Island. While many people still respected this even after the gods went quiet, this began to change in the last handful of years. A small town was built on the soil of Lune de Miel--this town became known as Arcana. News surrounding this town's existence started off with fliers that were scarcely scattered across the region, but it soon picked up like wildfire. Many people were brimming with curiosity; weren't they told that Lune de Miel was a sacred land? Who on earth would dare to build a town on it? Who was behind this, and how long had this even been in construction for without anyone knowing? For the past few years, it was rumored that Lune de Miel Island was the island of the goddess Narcissa; and, with a town built on its land, more rumors started surfacing that maybe this town was Narcissa's way of reconnecting with mortals. After all, a small amount of people claimed to have heard her voice when they reached out to her in prayer.

When Arcana first started selling real estate to potential residents, the first to go were mainly those curious about what the whole thing was about, and if it was in any way connected to Narcissa. Though many people promised to speak the truth about it once they had went and seen it for themselves, after moving, no one who lived there spoke a word of Narcissa. In fact, no one there spoke a word at all; for a while, it seemed that the first residents of Arcana were completely cut off from the outside world. Nothing was heard from the people who lived there, and the whole town was silent. The only way to get into contact with them seemed to be to head to the island yourself, but people weren't sure if that was a good or even a safe idea. The town became a hotspot for conspiracy theories to spread online.

It was only very recently that communnication opened back up again with Arcana. And, when it did, when questioned about life on the island, the responses from residents seemed to be pretty... normal. People there seemed to be living a completely average life. When asked about Narcissa, people seemed to either deny that she had anything to do with the island or dodge the question completely. Not only was this strange, but it soon became more confusing; when reaching out to any other god for answers, the silence remained. However, when reaching out for Narcissa, more people have reported hearing her voice call back to them. Her voice was always recorded as sounding faint and at times a bit difficult to understand, but something else was clear; Narcissa was the only one that seemed to be listening to them again.

To this day Arcana is accepting new residents. In fact, the real estate there is famed for being ridiculously cheap, and the land is said to be very beautiful, making it an attractive place to move... besides the rumors, of course. But that choice is up to you; do you shy away from the unknown, or do you accept it with open arms?
