All player characters need to be 18+. NPCs for your character may be any age, however. NPCs
won’t be able to participate in events and will not be chosen by gods (but they can still
have magic!).
Characters will be allowed to have the same first name or the same surname as other characters
in the group. This is something that happens in real life all the time, so it’s the same in this
setting. We just ask that no two characters have the same first name AND surname combo so it doesn’t
get confusing!
Character Design
General
Due to the nature of this group, all characters will be anthropomorphic animals. All characters must
stand on two legs and have humanoid anatomy. Characters are more than welcome to have animal features
such as muzzles, paws for hands and feet (as long as they can function like a human could), and other
key animal traits. Above all they just need to look humanoid and be able to function in a world built
for humanoid creatures.
The minimum height for characters is 4 ft or 122 cm and the maximum height is 8 ft or 244 cm.
All characters must fall into this range.
Species Selection
In Arcana, all species are allowed. If you can make an anthro out of it that fits to our rules, it’s fair game!
The only thing we ask for is no microorganisms, like bacteria or viruses or anything of that nature.
Both real life species and mythological or fantasy creatures are allowed. A regular house cat is just as valid
of a character species as a gryphon is. Extinct creatures like dinosaurs and saber tooth tigers will also be allowed.
Characters may be hybrids! Only two animal hybrids will be allowed. The hybrid can consist of any combination of
real, extinct, or fantasy animal. Real life animals who are already hybrids, such as a liger for example, will only
be counted as one animal for hybrids here, so you may hybrid it with something else. Fantasy creatures who are already
hybrids will not be eligible to have additional hybrids tacked on.
Traits such as horns, wings, etc. are allowed as long as they’re coming from somewhere that makes sense. For
example, a character being a hybrid with a species that has wings, or a magic domain justification for the horns.
Winged characters will all have the ability to fly with their wings naturally.
As for color palettes, any colors for any species will be allowed. Fur, eyes and hair are all fair game and can be any
color you want. A regular cat can be green, or a dog could be hot orange and dark purple. There will be complete freedom
for color selection.
Written Information
History
While heavy topics in character histories are allowed, we simply ask that you be delicate when addressing them. If a history
section is going to deal with potentially triggering topics, please put an appropriate trigger warning before it.
It’s allowed for characters to have a criminal record, but there will be a few rules about it. Characters will not allowed to
currently be a criminal or use Arcana as an excuse to run away from the law. We also ask you to be reasonable with past crimes
the character may have committed; your character won’t be allowed to have killed someone.
Hometowns
As for the hometown section of your application, you’re allowed to pick a pre-existing spot on the map from your character to be from
or you’re allowed to create your own area! Member created areas will not be able to be bigger than a small town or village, however.
It’s also of note that the currently existing cities all have their hands in the ongoing plot somehow--we make no promises we’ll
be able to include member created areas in the plot. Sorry!
Occupations
Any viable occupation is fair game in Arcana. Characters are also more than welcome to start up their own shops and businesses when
they get to the island! Businesses will be able to be set up wherever you would like.
Famous characters are allowed, we just ask that your character isn’t at the absolute top of whatever they do; for example, the most
subscribed person on YouTube, or the most famous pop singer ever.
Retconning and Changes
Sometimes things change with your character and that’s alright! In the event you need to, we will let you retcon a variety of things.
Some things that can be easily retconned after asking are:
Name
Gender
Height
Small cosmetic changes (hair can be changed at any time normally and without asking, the same goes for body modifications like piercings, tattoos and scars)
Age (to a range within reason and will still need to be 18+)
If you want to retcon things from your character’s personality or history, come to us with the changes first and we will work with you.
Small things will be able to be changed easily, but we’ll also work to get around bigger things as well!
